Kia Ora.
Maori Voice is a committee that consists of a selected group of students who are not only Maori but are also role models within the school, along with our teacher in charge Miss Kristina Sue, which was first created by Mrs Tania King,as part of the Ka Hikitia project.
The purpose of our comittee is to ensure that we stand up for ourselves and acknowledge our unique and beautiful culture. We also want to build an environment here at Whanganui Girls' College where we can feel safe and proud to be a Maori.
Kapa Haka (Poutamatia) is also a vital part of our desire to raise the achievement of all Maori students within our school, although it is not exclusive to just Maori. We encourage any of our students to be involved. The Kapa Haka is lead by Kapitorina Hall and supported by Whaea Erana Hogan, Whaea Kiritahi Takiari, and whanau members.
Our vision for Maori Voice and Poutamatia is to help strengthen Maoritanga within our school, and to enjoy education success as a Maori person. We also encourage and include any and as many students within the school as we possibly can.
